Some Help From Heaven

Ok, let's see if I can write this without breaking down completely....

After my husband died, each of his three sons  came to me to ask if they could have his Rolex watch.

The fact that there are 3 boys and only one watch and I had bought it for him as a Christmas gift, I told each of them that I would rather keep it myself.
It broke my heart to turn them down. They were hurting just as bad as I was. They lost their dad/best friend/boss after all.

It was a decision I would later regret....

After my husband died, I had moved, re-arranged my life, made adjustments. Learned to cope.

I paid off my house, moved, bought two cars, made decisions I hadn't had to make in many years. My husband did it all.
He was gone.

I had to have some small construction done in my Florida home. I hired a crew to do the work. All was going ok.

The house seemed alive with people.
The men were in and out of my house every day beginning at 7:00 a.m. to end of day.
One of the men from the construction crew saw and remarked on my husbands beautiful watch.
"Wow, that's one pretty watch."  He declared when he saw it as he passed through the Master Suite where I had placed it the night before.

I made a quick mental note to hide it in the house or to take it to my safe deposit box.... The landline phone rang...  the conversation forgotten  as I ran to answer it in the bustle of the buzzing saws and hammering noises of the construction going on in the next room.

That night,  as I lay in bed reflecting on the happenings of the day, I remembered and as I raced to check on it,  the watch was gone! Gone!

Disappeared from the place it was just that morning.
My heart sank.

I immediately called the police.

A flood of regret washed over me. My beautiful husband's watch on another man's arm? Lost? Missing.
I felt so broken.
Why hadn't I given it to one of the boys? At least then it would be safe. Treasured. Still in the hands of those that love my husband not some stranger.

Sadly, the police took my information, filed a report and told me they would do what they could to trace it if it showed up in a pawn shop but warned me that the chances were slim of ever getting it back.

The owner of the construction company had nothing to offer in the way of help either. I had no proof. There was only my suspicion that the young man that had asked about it had actually taken it.
My chances of ever seeing that watch again were slim to none.
I felt so hopeless.

I can't do anything right!

Who allows their deceased husband's watch to be stolen from their own home????

I had many things of my husband's that evoked so many sweet memories of him but I could squeeze my eyes shut real tight and SEE that watch on his big strong arm when he was alive and healthy.

The bright shiny gold would glitter in the sun as we would walk hand in hand into church on a beautiful Sunday morning. Out to dinner and I would see it on his wrist in the dim light of a candlelit restaurant as he reached across the table to grasp my hand. Every night I would see it on his side of the bed carefully placed on the night stand ready to be worn to the office as he rushed out the door.

Weeks passed then months. No word from the Florida State Police Department. Nothing.

Not a day passed by that I would not think of my husband and his missing watch. It was eating my soul to know I had let it slip away.
Gone.

My husband's birthday was approaching.  May 6.

His first birthday away from me. All I could do was cry.
I miss him so much. Every day.

 May 6, 2013

I went to the cemetery in the morning. As I stood there in the early light of the beautiful spring day, I told my husband what had happened. Explained my stupidity. Not just about the watch but many other stupid things I have done in the months since he passed.

I slowly drove home. Going to the cemetery was my way of going to "visit" my husband and it always made me feel sad but slightly better to know he was lying there waiting for me... someday.

We share a headstone.

When I arrived home, my phone rang.

Pinellas County Police Department.
They found the watch!!!

What? Really? How?

The person that stole it had posted it for sale on Craigslist.

It was posted at 11:30 p.m. and it was recovered by midnight and on it's way back to me via USPS overnight.

I got my husband's precious watch back and will watch over it like it's Fort Knox from now on.

I don't believe that the deceased can see ALL we do but I believe they do know what is bothering us.
To get that watch returned at all was a miracle. To get it back on my husband's birthday confirms that to me. I was beating my self up every single day for letting it slip away from me.

Rest in Peace Sweet Henry. Every second that ticks by on your precious watch reminds me of you.

I love and miss you so much.

Here is the Craigslist posting that the police were able to trace to the stolen watch:

My granddad died on June 21 too, but back in 2009. It feels like only yesterday, we miss him terribly. May Henry and my granddad rest in peace <3

  5. I'm glad you got his watch back, and I hope the person who stole it will face judgement .
About who to give it to,I would hold on to it for a while and pass it down to, perhaps, a grand son of yours !? May be it's to early to make a decision and with time you will have a clear mind to do the right thing.

  6. I will never understand theft. I can understand a mother with no money stealing for food for her children. Or the street children that steal to survive. But even those with almost nothing typically have the kind of heart that will share what little they have. But to take someone's belongings when you are healthy and capable of taking care of yourself. I would think that this person is in big trouble. With the value of the watch a judge will not take this lightly. I am so sorry Lana. It must have been so hard to tell the boys. I am glad it is back with you. Police officers have such a difficult job. Take care-Sue

  9. So sad that someone stole your husband's watch but so glad that you got it back. It really is amazing how things work out sometimes, isn't it. So glad it was returned to you.

I know how important the watch is to you but perhaps you could give it to his sons. I don't know, maybe each of them could use it for a time or let them figure out a contest of sorts that they deemed fair so one of them could have it. You have great memories of the watch but I think it would be great if someone could actually use it. The pride one of his sons would have to wear their father's watch would go a long way.

You've had a rough year. Sending you hugs. I know it isn't easy.

    P.S. Love the headstone.

  14. Isn't it true that sometimes really terrible things happen, only to lead to something so wonderful it is beyond words. I don't even think this is about theft, it is about Henry looking out for you! I love this story, love that it came back to you on his birthday. Praise the heavens!

  17. Good things happen to good people...that's why you got your watch back! I ran onto your youtube channel somehow from someone else's channel I guess. Anyway, I am glad I did. You seem like such a sweet lady and you sure look much younger than your years! I thought of my mom when I read your story about your late husband's watch. She is a sweet lady and very trusting. But God always seems to look out for the naive people in end. She always helps others and never thinks about herself. But most times if something unfortunate happens, something better happens to her later to make up for it somehow. God is watching and takes care of his sweet children. I look forward to watching your youtube posts and blog posts! Thanks for sharing :-)

  22. Lana, I have so enjoyed your blog and videos. I am a Lafayette native and currently reside in MI. I find you to be funny, honest, and real. A real woman dealing with something none of us want to ever think about. Tonight, I just sat here and cried for my "friend" who undoubtedly connected with her love and was given a sure sign that he is still and will always be with you.

I am 36 and married to the love of my life. He is my strength and my heart. When you speak about your husband, I understand the love you have for him. I think about you, pray for you and cheer you on. You are so strong and I look forward to seeing your posts.

  26. Lana, What a wonderful story. I just cried when I read it. I understand how important that watch is to you. You have so many beautiful memories tied to that watch. I truly think you should keep the watch. You can leave it to his sons in your will. The watch will never have the sentimental value to his sons as it does for you. Plus it may become an issue on which son gets the watch and could cause animosity either towards you or between the sons. I also love the headstone for Henry's grave. Thank you for sharing this story. Is is beautiful. Hugs, Jennifer Boyd

  29. Hi Lana,

I'm so happy that Henry's watch was able to find its way back to you!

You'll probably never see this, but I've been a YouTube follower of yours for a while. I stopped going on YT for a while because my mom had passed away. When I went back on YT, I found out what had happened to your husband. Although I do not know you personally and you don't know me, my heart sank. I immediately went to your blog to see if I could find out more as to what had happened. As I read every single post regarding your husband's battle, tears were pouring down my face...because I knew exactly how it felt to experience what you went through. And that pain is something I would not wish upon my worst enemy. My mother, too, passed away from cancer. I HATE CANCER, I hate it just as much as you hate cancer. My heart broke all over again, but this time for you.

I've always admired you Lana. You are such an incredible and courageous person. I can only hope to be as strong as you one day. You are truly an inspiration. After many months, I found some time to myself, and decided to revisit your blog [tonight that is] to see how you are doing.

My eyes couldn't believe itself. Lana, my mother also passed away on June 21, 2012.

I know this is odd, especially coming from a complete stranger, but I feel somehow more connected to you, even though we've never met or have spoken before...that on that particular day, we both experienced the most heart breaking day of our lives. I'm so sorry for your loss Lana, I wish I could take your pain away and rewrite history, for the both of us.

I may not visit your YT or blog as often as I'd like, but you'll always have a spot in my heart. Don't stop being incredible. You inspire me everyday to keep my head up high. Thank you such a wonderful gift.

PS. I hope you'll get to read this post one day.

    With Love,
    Jenny

    1. Aww, I love you. I'm so sorry about your mom. I like to think those two, who are complete strangers are looking down and happy that we know each other. I hope that see how much we love and miss them.
I hope they KNOW. I think they do. I think Henry knew that it was bothering me so much that I had allowed his watch to slip away from me and he nudged it all to happen so I have it back safe where it belongs.
I think your mom found a way for you to contact me and let us both know they are ok.
I wish i could hug you. I have tears streaming down my face but somehow they are happy tears for this beautiful connection.
I love you. God Bless. xoox

  31. What kind of soulless, slime hearted, douche steals something so precious from a grieving widow? Not even because he found it beautiful, he just wanted to sell it. I firmly believe in Karma, and that young man just served himself a plate full of really unhappy consequences down the line.

My husband was so smooth at hiding her infidelity and I had no proof for months, I saw a recommendation about a Private investigator and decided to give him a try.. the result was incredible because all my cheating husbands text messages, whatsapp, facebook and his phone conversations was sent directly to my Personal computer. Mr James helped me put a round-the-clock monitoring on him and I got concrete evidence and gave it to my lawyer..I say no to infidelity if your husband is an expert at hiding his cheating adventures contact him through Gmail he will help you(Worldcyberhackers) or WhatsApp : +12678773020
